1. February 24: ֱ among safest colleges in the country
We didn't need another reason to love spending time on the Heights, but 2024 delivered one anyway: ֱ was named one of the safest campuses in the nation by Academic Influence, garnering more than 1,000 reactions on .

2. March 15: Fiddle Kid Returns to ֱ
Danny Gillis '28 grew up delighting Conte Forum with his air fiddling performances—and this spring he announced his return to ֱ as a member of the first-year class. Men's hockey fans were delighted by the news, and by their team's a few weeks later to become Hockey East Champions.

3. March 20: Academic Wall of Honor unveiled 
To celebrate the academic achievements of ֱ students past and present, a Wall of Honor was installed in Gasson Hall listing the names of students who earned coveted Rhodes, Marshall, Churchill, Goldwater, and Truman scholarships during their undergraduate years. 

4. April 29: ֱ makes Forbes’ list of ‘New Ivies’
Boston College was included in a list of 10 private universities "turning out the smart, driven graduates craved by employers of all types,” put together by Forbes magazine. The accolade was viewed more than half a million times across ֱ's social channels, and shared by 800 proud followers. 

5. May 26: ֱ Lacrosse does it again
The Eagles staged an incredible comeback against Northwestern to earn their second national championship in just three years. Fan marveled at their accomplishments in an .

6. June 15: Alumnus Greg Boyle, S.J., receives Medal of Freedom
The Jesuit Catholic priest and founder of Homeboy Industries received the nation's highest civilian honor for his work with former gang members in Los Angeles. Hundreds of members of the ֱ community celebrated his inspiring service on .

7. July 1: Heather Cox Richardson wins Baldacci Award
It was another big year for the ֱ history professor whose newsletter, "Letters from an American," surpassed one million subcribers on Substack and earned her the Baldacci Award for Literary Activism, which was presented by documentary filmmaker Ken Burns.

8. July 15: Remembering Jack Connors 
"He was always a force for good." University President William P. Leahy, S.J., joined the ֱ and greater Boston community in celebrating the life of devoted alumnus and benefactor Jack Connors ’63, H’07 after his passing at age 82. 

9. July 28: Olympic Eagles
ֱ was well represented at the Paris Summer Games, with sailor Erika Reineke '17 competing for Team USA (accompanied by ֱ coach Greg Wilkinson) and marathon runner Laura Hottenrott '16 representing her native Germany. ֱ Assistant Fencing Coach Ralf Bissdorf came home with a gold medal after leading the American women’s foil squad to its first team gold. "It's just pure, pure joy," he said.

10. August 25: Smile, Class of 2028!

It takes more than two minutes to stage the beloved first-year class photo, but a sped up the process for Facebook followers, who welcomed the newest crop of Eagles to the Heights.

11. September 21: ֱ Football Defeats Michigan State in Red Bandanna Game

"Another victory for Welles!!!" one fan  after ֱ defeated Michigan State in the annual Red Bandanna Game. The football season gave fans plenty to cheer about, including new head coach Bill O'Brien and a special by Doug Flutie and and Gerald Phelan to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Miracle in Miami (which prompted comments from more than 550 fans on ).

12. November 21: Tom Holland visits the Campus School
The Spider-Man actor surprised students and staff at the special needs school when he stopped by during a trip to Boston. “He couldn't have been more down to earth,” said the school's marketing manager, Jennifer Miller. Holland's nonprofit also awarded the Campus School a $25k grant for adaptive equipment.
